Organic
Bedding!
Have you ever slept on organic
sheets? I have and let me tell you, they are really nice! I had no idea how
much pesticides affect a cotton crop. Compared to organic, those chemically
treated sheets definitely do not hold a candle to the natural real McCoy. Organic
cotton makes far better bedding.
I’ve been eating organic
fruits and vegetables almost exclusively for 20 years. I am from Texas, the
home of Whole Foods Market. Check their web site. They have stores in most states
now. I love them. I’ll admit the stores in Texas and Colorado were generally
nicer than the ones in Atlanta, but they are catering to totally different markets.
But I digress.
So, for years now, I’ve
been inviting people to taste an organic carrot and then taste one that isn’t.
Bananas, too. Once you’ve tried an organic one and noticed the absence
of that flat, bitter taste, you will forever know the difference. No one will
be able to fool you again. Same thing with filtered clean water of just about
any kind: chlorine will stick out like a sore thumb for the rest of your life.
Bedding is just something
I didn’t think of. But I sleep 8 hours on those sheets. I’ve got
a little bit of organic cotton clothing, not a lot. There isn’t a lot
of it out there. But that is what got me to thinking about organic bedding.
If I like organic yoga tops, why not some organic bedding?
Why did I wait so long to
try organic sheets and comforters? Well, they’re expensive for one thing.
But every year Gaiam has a Green Sale in January. When everyone else is having
a White Sale, their sheets and blankets are organic! I decided to try them.
The person who took my order was very informative. She told me that there just
isn’t enough organic cotton in the world. That is part of why the price
is so high.
Did you know that there
is no organic cotton grown in the US? A lot of what Gaiam uses comes from Turkey.
We’re probably a decade away from widespread popularity and availability
of organic bedding, but we’ve got to start somewhere. Really. Give organic
bedding a try. It’s at least as good as the organic bananas and carrots!
I wonder what it would take
to get American cotton farmers to stop using pesticides?
